A complete transformation from start to finish, for Middleton St Mary’s!
Working alongside the wonderful teachers at the school, together, we came up with a playground that offers endless fun and educational benefits for early years development.
Beginning with some worn-out grass and resources, we decided to replace almost everything. From changing surfacing, to adding new playground equipment; we have definitely brightend up this outdoor play environment!
During the design process, we began by breaking up the playground into different zones. To do this, we incorporated different surfacing in each space. For example, we created a barked area for where physical equipment was going to be installed.
Finished with timber sleepers to surround the space, this barked area consists of chin-up bars, an artificial grass tunnel, a natural clamber tree and even more climbing apparatus!
A fantastic place for children to play and enhance physical activity whilst doing so. Perhaps teachers can even take P.E. lessons outdoors?
In other areas, we added elements of water play and role play. To do this, we installed a water play stream, including a bespoke bridge on top of the water flow. Surfacing used here included block paving, adding depth and colour to the playground.
Last but not least, we included a roadway, made up of new pour surfacing and artificial grass in the centre. Children can use this space to ride their bikes, trikes, and scooters, in a designated area within the playground. Within this space, we also included a lockable storage shed, to encourage children to lock away their playground vehicles after use!
