Early Years Playground Transformation - Middlethorpe Primary Academy, Cleethorpes

Within just nine short days, one of our fantastic site teams transformed this space into the playground of dreams for Middlethorpe Primary Academy.

Being a local school to us, it was great for us to pop out each day to take a closer look at the progress.

When our projects team first visited Middlethorpe, this playground was in need of some serious TLC. It was up to our projects team to create something spectacular for the pupils at this school.

Working alongside the wonderful teachers, together, we brought their vision to life and generated an adventurous, outdoor learning environment for the children.

Injecting fun and education into one renovation!

To begin with, our team started to clear the space and mark out where the new surfacing/play equipment would be laid/situated.

They then began to remove existing surfacing, ready to prepare the ground and lay the new.

Surfacing options used within this space include artificial grass, resin bound surfacing, block paving and turf. Each of these obtaining a purpose and also adding different colours and textures to the playground.

Once this was all prepared, they then began to add timber fencing, form the water play stream and cobble beach and also install the clamber stack.

Both of these features are great for increasing fine and gross motor skills and physical ability within early years development. Not only do they offer educational benefits, but they also guarantee a lot of fun on the playground!

Adding a variety of timber resources!

Upon completion of the groundwork, line markings were added to the bike track and all freestanding resources were built up and put into place.

During the design process, it was decided to add a variety of timber play resources to encourage further outdoor, learning through play.

Within this selection, we included our best-selling Woodcutters Cottage, which is perfect for engaging in role-play activities with friends, enhancing social skills and teamwork whilst doing so.

As well as this resource, we added a selection of water play resources, situated by the stream, to keep water play within one section of the playground.

Other categories of play include messy play; construction play and sand play. All of which are beneficial for early years education.
