Physical Play: One hour a day keeps the doctor away.

Benefits of Physical Play

Many leading health professionals express the importance of Physical play for your child’s health and wellbeing, especially during their early years.

Psychical play has many health benefits for children. However, many of our little ones aren’t getting out in the fresh air enough. According to the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, “1 in 5 children are overweight or obese when they start primary school”. Naturally, these figures raise the question of whether digital screens are fueling the UK’s obesity crisis.

Psychical play in your child’s early years is more crucial than ever. Especially since children are favouring sedentary screenplay over a healthy outdoor option.

Are our little ones missing out on their best memories?

The National Trust conducted a recent study which found that children spend half the time playing outside than their parents did. There is a real need for parents to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle from a young age. Children need to be educated that outdoor play is just as good if not more fun than indoor games.

Here are just a few things we can all thank psychical play for:

Physical play has countless health benefits for your children! It promotes fine motor skills, cognitive and educational development. Outdoor physical play encourages role-play where children acquire the necessary social skills needed in adulthood. As children play together they begin to explore their feelings and learn new ways of expressing themselves. As a result, their ability  to start regulating their emotions which helps them to cope with challenging situations with confidence and clarity, later on in life.

If you’re not persuaded yet, here are some more countless benefits of physical play:

Healthy growth and better bones

According to the World Health Organisation, outdoor play helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal disorders, insulin resistance and certain forms of cancer later on in life. Physical activity in combination with a healthy diet helps strong bone growth and muscle development. This physical development helps children to master co-ordination, balance, stamina and agility.

Confidence and Friendships

Physical play is often enjoyed in the outdoors, providing the best environment for children to interact with each other. Outdoor play encourages children to bond, as they socialise and problem- solve together. By working together children build confidence forge lasting friendships.
