Full of different textures, fun and creativity; the kids at St. Luke’s can let their imaginations run wild in their new playground.
Consisting of timber play resources, multiple surface options and an outdoor classroom, the educational benefits are endless in this sensory garden!
Running throughout the centre of the grounds is a path of interest, inclusive of different surfaces, allowing the children to explore different textures. These surfaces include block paving, artificial grass, newpour and different paving slabs.
By merging contrasting floorwork, it adds character and brings the area to life with its different colours and textures.
Surrounded by the pathway is a large bed of artificial grass, with physical timber play resources situated within the space. A fantastic spot for children to boost their physical ability as they play and learn.
In addition to the walkway features a bespoke pergola, creating a natural look and feel to the playground.
During the design process, it was decided to feature sensory elements around the playground, to help increase gross and fine motor skills for early years education.
To do this, we manufactured some bespoke sensory panels to fit the specific space, and also added a mounted mirror and chalkboard. The sensory panel contains different objects and material for children to discover with their senses!
Whilst working alongside the staff at St. Luke’s, we discussed including an outdoor classroom to provide a permanent learning space outdoors, whatever the weather.
A fantastic spot for teachers to teach and for children to learn!
