Out with the old and in with the new!
Working alongside the wonderful teachers at Ling Moor School, together, we designed a natural play environment to encourage more outdoor play.
Completed by one of our site teams recently, the children can now engage in activities outdoors for hours on end.
It was decided to keep the layout of the grounds fairly similar to how it was before but change the surfacing in most areas.
In the center, we replaced the existing grass and laid artificial grass instead, as this is part of the playground is intensively used. We also took the old block paving and replaced this with new block paving of brighter colours, bringing the playground to life.
Incorporated into this section is a large, rustic sandpit, with a boulder and sleeper surround, designed to promote educational benefits as the children play. Sand play is great for increasing physical ability and improving hand-eye coordination and motor skills.
Promoting outdoor education further, our team designed an outdoor classroom with a frosted blue, Lexan roof and heavy-duty PVC covers to enable teachers to teach outside whatever the weather. Children can also utilise this robust structure as a stage, to engage in role play activities with friends.
We also added a shelter to the side of the school building, including a polycarbonate roof to protect the children from harmful UV rays as they play.
Underneath the shelter, we extended the existing artificial grass, to allow an even surface throughout.
In other areas, we added a selection of timber play resources and storage solutions for playground equipment.
