Imaginative Play Environment - Thornaby C of E Primary School, Stockton on Tees

Nature, sensory, storytelling and more, this natural play environment is the perfect setting for early years education.

The teachers of Thornaby now have the opportunity to incorporate each area into the school curriculum, making outdoor learning better than ever!

Water Play Space

If ever water play is in the question, Newby Leisure’s water play streams are an absolute must. They look great, children love them, and they generate endless educational benefits!

Creating an earthy atmosphere, the stream includes a cobble beach, producing hours of fun for the children.

Inclusive of a bespoke, timber bridge, allowing children to enjoy the view of the water trickling along the stream from above, whilst enhancing

Great for physical benefits, children will develop their fine motor skills and muscle strength as they pump the water.

Coloured Sensory Shelter

A beautiful feature in any educational setting; Newby Leisure’s coloured shelters are brilliant for adding sensory values to your playground.

Complete with polycarbonate, lexan windows in red, green, and blue, creating coloured reflections on the ground.

Encouraging more outdoor role play, children can use the shelter to act out plays, be taught outside or utilise as a quiet reading area.

It is perfect for use all-year round too!

Creative Storytelling Area

Every school or nursery needs an outdoor reading space to offer the opportunity to quietly read during classes or break time. Newby Leisure has definitely provided!

A small section, surfaced with artificial grass, complete with a rustic storyteller’s chair, four stools, a wall-mounted chalkboard, and a planter bench. There is plenty of seating to allow multiple children to engage in social play, as they read and play outdoors, surrounded by nature.

The teachers of Thornaby can take advantage of the wall-mounted chalkboard as they can put it to use in outdoor lessons. The children can also practice their mark making skills and play multiple board games.

Designed to capture a child’s imagination and spark creativity, this creative and versatile storytelling space will withstand the elements for all-year-round use.

Imaginative Play Zone

Kids can really take their imagination to the next level with this fun range of resources. Messy, imaginative, water, constructive, role play – this spot has it all!

Newby Leisure’s staple mud kitchen is a classic resource to enhance early years development in all educational environments, including this one. Potion mixing and mud pie making will be in full swing!

In addition to this, a mini water fun until centralizes the grounds. Inclusive of a large tray and storage underneath, teachers can fill the trays with water, sand, and other natural elements to let children explore and experiment a variation of textures. This sensory activity will stimulate problem solving and curiosity as they learn through play.

Also featuring a wooden BBQ, mud cooker, digging pits and storage shed, this imaginative play zone offers countless entertainment for these primary school kids.

Nature Play Area

You can always rely on school nature areas to breathe new life into your playground.

The teachers of Thornaby wanted to achieve a natural place that included a mixture of play resources to boost early years learning.

Being in close contact with nature in a learning environment allows children to appreciate their natural surroundings whilst stimulating their senses.

To increase physical ability for EYFS, together, we decided that the perfect resource to incorporate was a fallen clamber tree. Children will build their upper body strength and and-eye coordination as they clamber and climb.

To conceive the natural look, bark covers the surroundings of the space, with a picket fence for safeguarding.

This area also consists of coloured teepee and a mini bug hotel, both great timber play resources to encourage natural role play!
